Simple Things

Five simple things that made my week.

1. Homemade mayonnaiseHomemade Mayonnaise | the beauty in simplebecause I avoid unnecessary packaging and highly processed ingredients by making my own. I follow the mayo recipe in the Full Moon Feast cook book, which is similar to this recipe

2. Refried Beans headed to the freezerFreeze Homemade Refried Beans in Jars for Convenience | the beauty in simplebecause doubling the recipe made enough for several meals. Twice the food for half the work!

3. A Sharp knifeSharpened Knife | the beauty in simplebecause it makes a world a difference to get my knives professionally sharpened. (Denver folks, I was pleased with The Knife Guys. They have a one-day turn-around and do a great job at $3 per knife.)

4. Gym shortsCity Gym Shorts | the beauty in simplebecause I’m busting through my fabric stash. I love how these gym shorts turned out, using leftover fabric from a quilting project and this free pattern

5. LilacsLilacs | the beauty in simplebecause they bring me cheer on a dreary day.

April is nearly over and I didn’t post as much as I’d like on the topic of the month, cleaning. I do love making my own cleaning supplies and I love a clean house, but sometimes the act of cleaning takes a bit of talking myself into. Apparently writing about it does too. In any case, I’m moving on from that subject and into May’s theme of nature connection. If April showers linger, I say let’s throw on the raincoats and get outside.

Wishing you bright days ahead!

  1. Gonna make the refried beans today! Great day to have the slow cooker on….
Once again, your blog is the highlight of my day, week…..

    1. I’ll definitely be making those shorts again. Although, my fabric stash is dwindling. I guess I’ll start raiding my mom’s stash. 🙂

  2. I wish you lived in my area – I’ve been too lazy to research knife sharpeners near me, but you make it seem way easier to find than I thought it would be! Thanks for the good idea.

    1. It was a long overdue task that I’m so happy I finally got done. I hear Sur la Table and William Sonoma sharpen knives. That might be an easy option for you.
