Simple Things

Five simple things that made my week.

1. A fall nature tableFall Nature Table | the beauty in simplebecause it’s the first of our seasonal nature tables (and it just had to include a pickup truck hauling fire wood).

2. Roasted carrotsRoasted Carrots | the beauty in simplebecause I think it might be my favorite roasted root vegetable. (Slice into coins, toss lightly with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and roast in a 500° oven until sweet and caramelized.)

3. A bunting bannerHandmade Bunting Banner | the beauty in simplefor the school spirit I hope it brings to a dorm room on game days.

4. Pumpkin spice play doughPumpkin Spice Play Dough | the beauty in simplefor all the senses brought into play. (I used this recipe and colored it with turmeric.)

5. A borrowed bookFlowers Pressed Between the Pages of a Book | the beauty in simplebecause of the sweet surprise found pressed between its pages.

I was pressing some leaves between the pages of a library book the other day and I thought to myself, I must remember to take these out before I return the book. It wasn’t the next day when I borrowed a book from a Little Free Library and sat down to read when I noticed there were a handful of dried flowers  scattered throughout its pages. I loved that someone took the care to preserve pieces of nature, and whether intended or not those flowers became another person’s delight. I might just in fact “forget” a few of those leaves in that library book after all.

Wishing you delight in your days!
